Intentional Community

Intentional community is about living, learning, laughing, worshiping, and serving together in a way that strengthens the relationships people have with each other, with the church, with the community, and with God. The DC CRC is opening the church parsonage to a second cohort of intentional community residents beginning September 1, 2017. This modern application of an ancient tradition creates a nurturing environment for those who are passionate about building connections in a fragmented world, exploring opportunities for service and hospitality, and pursuing greater intimacy with God and others. By their Christian commitment to living well together, we believe this group will foster momentum and hope for the church. The church, by providing connections and worship, will provide a community of hope to surround the individuals participating in the intentional community. Together we will discover a greater commitment to the places where we worship, live, work, and go to school.

The community will be based at the parsonage immediately adjacent to the church. The detached brick Colonial-style house has four bedrooms, three bathrooms, and a shaded back yard. Located at 207 Oneida Street NW, it’s less than a block from a bus stop and a 20-minute walk from Fort Totten Metro Station on the Red, Green, and Yellow Lines.

Interested in joining us? Here’s what we’re looking for in community members:

–Men and women 21 years old and above who are single or married (as long as both spouses are interested).
–Professed and lived evidence of Christian commitment, including worship attendance.
–Our neighborhood’s diversity in race, language, culture, sexual orientation, marital status, and age continues to grow, so the intentional community will engage with and participate in the diversity of its surroundings.
–Commitment to offer 1 hospitality event (dinner, game night, lunch after church, etc.) a month and to facilitate 1 service project with local agencies (Food & Friends, SOME, Lasalle Backus Elementary School) a month.
–A general assurance of the ability to contribute rent of about $600/month, plus modest utilities.
–The ability to complete a year as a community member.
