Weekly News February 4-10, 2018

General Church Announcements

Read what some critics are calling the best Christian Reformed church newsletter in all of the District of Columbia! Pick up a copy of the February church newsletter on your way out of church today.

Parking Fun Fact: Did you know that parking on New Hampshire Ave. from Oneida Street to Quackenbos Street is legal on Sundays?  Citizens Aware and LRCA are working to get signage posted but, in the meantime, if you’re running late to church, all the good parking is already taken, and you’d like to save yourself a hike up the hill, you will not be ticketed for parking along New Hampshire Ave.

Fellowship Directory: There are a couple of copies of the directory in the narthex. Please check to ensure your contact information is correct, or if your information isn’t in there, please add it!

There is NO first Sunday potluck today. Please plan to join us for the Super Bowl party today, and we will resume again in March.

Building & Grounds Volunteer Workday: Please join the Building & Grounds team on Saturday, February 10, for a workday to kickstart our 2018 projects! We’ll start about 9am with coffee and treats to keep you energized through the morning and then we’ll get you back to your regularly scheduled Saturday activities by noon. Some of the projects on this month’s workday agenda include: spring cleaning for the worship closet and deacons room, installing motorized blinds in the sanctuary cupola, replacing projectors, and reassembling the stage. We don’t require you to have any special skills to participate in a workday – we’ll find projects for everyone that shows up to help! If you can’t join us this month, please keep an eye out for our next Volunteer Workday opportunity. Any questions, feel free to contact the Building & Grounds Team (Piet deDreu, Hal Maring, Cara Welch, or Katie Roelofs) or you can email us at

Book Group is reading Where the Past Begins by Amy Tan for our breakfast meeting at Siyroush’s 9:30 a.m. February 24. All are welcome.

Adult Sunday School for Lent: Join us during Lent, when we will reflect together on readings from Bread and Wine: Readings for Lent and Easter by well-known authors ancient & contemporary, including Blaise Pascal, Brennan Manning, C. S. Lewis, Christina Rossetti, Clarence Jordan, Dag Hammarskjöld, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Dorothy Day, Dorothy Sayers, Dylan Thomas, Emil Brunner, Ernesto Cardenal, Fleming Rutledge, Frederica Mathewes-Green, Frederick Buechner, Fyodor Dostoevsky, G. K. Chesterton, George MacDonald, Henri Nouwen, Madeleine L’Engle, Malcolm Muggeridge, Martin Luther, Meister Eckhart, Mother Teresa, N. T. Wright, Philip Yancey and Wendell Berry.  Each session will be led by a different brother or sister of our church family.  Please join us for this opportunity to deepen your relationship with Christ during the time of the year when we remember his Passion.  If you want the church to order the book for you, just let Grace Pool or Joyce Campbell know.
