Announcements

Planning for Pastor Meg’s 9-week sabbatical next summer has begun. The elders are in the process of determining interim coverage while she is away and will keep the congregation informed when a decision has been made.

 General Church Announcements

Parking Fun Fact: Did you know that parking on New Hampshire Ave. from Oneida Street to Quackenbos Street is legal on Sundays?  Citizens Aware and LRCA are working to get signage posted but, in the meantime, if you’re running late to church, all the good parking is already taken, and you’d like to save yourself a hike up the hill, you will not be ticketed for parking along New Hampshire Ave.

Fellowship Directory: There are a couple of copies of the directory in the narthex. Please check to ensure your contact information is correct.

Adult Sunday School:  We will resume The Good and Beautiful Life study for 2 more weeks. Jan. 28 – Learning to Live Without Judging Others (soul training: a day without gossip)

Feb. 4 – Living in the Kingdom Day by Day (soul training:  living one day devotionally)

Come not only for the wisdom you can receive, but for the wisdom you can share with others!

On Feb. 11, we’ll start a new series -stay tuned.

The 6:30 Bible study is continuing its study of the book Telling the Truth:  The Gospel as Tragedy, Comedy, and Fairy Tale by Frederick Buechner.  On Saturday, February 3, Joyce Campbell will lead our discussion of Parts III and IV.  The book is available from Amazon in hardcover.  The group will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the home of Bill and Kathy Heetderks in Silver Spring.  If you would like to learn about the study group and if you need transportation from a metro station, please contact Kathy at Kathy.Heetderks@gmail.com.  All are invited.

Time to RSVP for the Super Bowl Party!  We hope you’ll join us next Sunday eve, Feb 4.  (See info below). Please either let Sara Bos know in person or respond to the email invitation by Friday evening, Feb 2.

We’ll be celebrating the Super Bowl in the Community Room of Mike and Lisa Telliga’s Capital Yards building.  Their address is:

There is street parking (meters are free on Sundays) and it is Metro accessible (2 blocks North of the Navy Yard Metro stop. If taking Metro, exit toward the Department of Transportation).  Carpooling would be an excellent idea, since we are not likely to be the only ones in the building with a party that night!  We’ll have main dish food, but you are invited to bring a snack or dessert to share, if you are able.  6pm until whenever the game is over.

There is NO first Sunday potluck next week. Please plan to join us for the Super Bowl party as our gathering in

February, and we will resume again in March.

Book Group is reading Where the Past Begins by Amy Tan for our breakfast meeting at Siyroush’s 9:30 a.m. February 24. All are welcome.

Adult Sunday School for Lent: Join us during Lent, when we will reflect together on readings from Bread and Wine: Readings for Lent and Easter by well-known authors ancient & contemporary, including Blaise Pascal, Brennan Manning, C. S. Lewis, Christina Rossetti, Clarence Jordan, Dag Hammarskjöld, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Dorothy Day, Dorothy Sayers, Dylan Thomas, Emil Brunner, Ernesto Cardenal, Fleming Rutledge, Frederica Mathewes-Green, Frederick Buechner, Fyodor Dostoevsky, G. K. Chesterton, George MacDonald, Henri Nouwen, Madeleine L’Engle, Malcolm Muggeridge, Martin Luther, Meister Eckhart, Mother Teresa, N. T. Wright, Philip Yancey and Wendell Berry.  Each session will be led by a different brother or sister of our church family.  Please join us for this opportunity to deepen your relationship with Christ during the time of the year when we remember his Passion.  If you want the church to order the book for you, just let Grace Pool or Joyce Campbell know.
